Happy 4th of July!

...How our Fourth of July began at the American Chamber of Commerce BBQ with the little Olympic mascots and AMERICAN FOOD! (There was a "Tim's Texas BBQ" stand which was a little disappointing as their rendition of "Tex-Mex" was tortilla chips and corn on the cob - but their menu has burritos and quesadillas so we might be venturing out to find it soon). Anyway, then a monsoon hit, so the party had to move inside a school cafeteria and the fireworks got canceled :/. And this is how our Fourth of July ended...

We got off the shuttle buses back from the International School of Beijing where the party was and had to wade barefoot through calf-high water through the streets of Beijing to the nearest bus stop (I'm not really sure how the cars next to us weren't floating away - the water was up to their bumpers). Oh well, at least it's not like Beijing has acid-rain or toxic waste mixed in with the water draining through the streets. Oh wait...
